Cougar Hunting in Colorado

Cougar hunting in Colorado often will be on a larger private ranch. You’ll be cutting tracks with either a snowmobile, 4 x 4 truck or a side by side.  The hunts always start very early looking for tracks.  The sooner in the day the dogs can be let go the higher chance of success.  Many guided clients choose after a day or so of “bumping around” to sleep in.  They get a call when a track has been found.

Outfitters or Houndsman, often know the ground they are on very well and when they kill a cat, it’s amazing how quickly another will move into the territory.  Successful cougar hunting is all about snow when you are using dogs, and because of the elevations and snow consistency in Colorado Cougar Hunting the success is higher than any other state I put clients on to chase their cats.  The other factor that is nice in Colorado is because of the private ground you are not dealing with public hunting numbers in states like Idaho and Wyoming.  You have the area to yourself which makes for more peaceful hunting.
